This course aims to build and refine skills in drawing and painting techniques, colour mixing and tonal modelling. Students will also learn how to develop ideas through learning about artists’ themes, concepts and techniques.
The main focus of the course is to strengthen skills in:
- Drawing
- Painting
- Idea development
Some students will also be offered the opportunity to do a research assignment.

Entry Requirements
Level 1 Painting will suit students who enjoy and have some talent in drawing and painting. To be successful at this subject it would be useful if students have an interest in drawing and painting and have some skill. Students will need to be able to think creatively and imaginatively to develop ideas. Students would also need to finish off artworks outside of lesson time.
Pathway
Success in Level 1 Painting will provide students with the basic knowledge and skills that will be useful for studying Level 2 Painting, Design, and Design and Visual Communication. This course is also important if students want to study Art and Design based degrees or want to make their career in a creative industry.
