Health Level 2

Course Description

HEALTH EDUCATION – YEAR 12
NCEA LEVEL 2
CODE: 12HEA
Level 2 Health Education builds on the knowledge that students have gained in Level 1 Health Education, focusing on health issues relevant to adolescent well-being. Students begin to further develop their ability to think critically about situations that impact the well-being of individuals, other people, relationships, and whole communities. Students will engage in learning related to the topics of mental health and resiliency, gender and sexuality, and other relevant adolescent health issues. A major topic is based around critical action where the students work together to develop, implement and evaluate a plan of action to enhance the well-being of students in the school or local community. Students will engage in a variety of learning activities to develop their understanding of key ideas and concepts, including interactive group work, class and group-based discussions, research and investigations, value continuum's, and individual reading and writing tasks. The knowledge and skills developed through the Level 2 Health Education course will strengthen students understanding of the underlying health concepts, and enhance their Health Education literacy skills, including writing and research skills and their ability extract information from resource material. The Level 2 Health Education course also provides a pathway for further study at NCEA Level 3 Health Education or tertiary study related to social and health sciences.

Entry Requirements

14 credits in English at NCEA Level 1. It is an advantage to have taken Level 1 Health but not a requirement to do Level 2 Health.
