Level 2 Social Studies

Course Description

Kia orā, Welcome to Y12 Senior social studies. In this course, students examine the causes and effects of social issues relating to identity, culture, societal structure, and organization. The course analyses humanity actions from a local, national, and global context from a social inquiry process. At level 2, the focus is on understanding causes, consequences and peoples responsibilities of various social actions as well as the variety of impacts e.g.: political, environmental and educational it makes upon society also.

Introduction and understanding perspectives of different protests.
Environmental and body image protests

Term 2
Impact of youth activism
Local and national issues

Term 3
Social Actions: International issues
Racial and mental health awareness.

Term 4
Impact of media, film and music on social action and External preparation

Entry Requirements

Students may enter Level 2 Social Studies without having done the Level 1 course the previous year. A comprehensive introduction to key Level 2 skills will be undertaken early in Term 1 to assist. A talanoa aswell with CL/ACL prior to the course starting will be beneficial also for diagnostic purposes.
