Aims:
Students of Te Reo Māori, in tandem with learning tikanga Māori will develop and apply a range of communicative skills in a variety of contexts that will enable them to express their thoughts in te reo Māori with accuracy, fluency, cultural integrity and gain an understanding of language revitalization.
Course Content:
This course will further develop students’ competence in:
- listening, speaking, reading, and writing Te Reo Māori
- understanding important and relevant issues in Aotearoa and abroad
- utilizing everyday phrases and idioms
- researching and presenting information gathered on Te Ao Māori
- expressing personal opinions and thoughts on a given topic
Content/Topics:
- Haka/Waiata composed after 1900
- Korero purakau/ Legends and myths
- He take torangapu/A political/youth issue
- He tangata rongonui/Famous Māori Leader
- He kaupapa whakaora i te reo/Language revitalisation strategy
Entry Requirements
Te Reo Māori Level 3 is designed to improve on, and extend Level two’s te reo Māori proficiency. If you have not taken Te Reo Māori before, please see the teacher in charge before selecting this option.

Success in our Level 3 te reo Māori course provides students with a foundation of communicative skills and cultural knowledge that will support further studies in tertiary institutions and in range of career pathways

Number of credits that can be used for overall endorsement: 16
Only students engaged in learning and achievement derived from Te Marautanga o Aotearoa are eligible to be awarded these subjects as part of the requirement for 14 credits in each of three subjects.
