Year 9 Tōfā Manusina Bilingual - Gagana Samoa

Course Description

Talofa Lava! Mālō le Soifua! Welcome to Tōfā Manusina Bilingual Samoan!  
This year, you will learn to introduce yourself in Samoan and talk about your hobbies, likes and dislikes, family, home and school. 

You will have the opportunity to learn about and experience Samoan cultural activities such as festivals, food, crafts and games. You will learn to recognise and write using Gagana Samoa, and ask and answer basic personal questions. 

You will be assessed at the end of each term with different tasks, and at the end of the year with an examination incorporating everything taught over the year. 

To succeed in this course:

●      Revise new vocabulary through Quizlet or in your books. Repetition is key to retaining information. 

●      Revise your basics (Pi Tautau/Numera/Aso o le Vaiaso/Masina o le Tausaga). 

●      Ask questions when you do not understand. Raise your hand and do not be afraid to make mistakes! 

●      If you miss a class, make sure you catch-up with work on Microsoft Teams.  

The topics are:

•O lo’u Gafa, O lo’u Aiga – Aganu'u ma le Fa'asinomaga (Culture and Identity)

•Talafa'asolopito o Sāmoa -  Pūlega Fa'alemālō (Power and Privilege)

•Measina a Sāmoa – Turisi Sāmoa = Samoa Tourism (Global Changes)

•Mea'ai Fa’asāmoa – Samoan Traditional Cooking/Food

Other extra learning experiences and activities will be done in things such as Samoan Language Week – Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa 2025, as well as opportunities in between set tasks where you will be able to learn about culture and other aspects such as food.  

Successful completion of this course will lead to Yr 10 Tōfā Manusina Sāmoan Bilingual in 2026
