The Māori language cloaks Māori thought and provides a pathway to the wider world.
Aims:
Students of Te Reo Māori, in tandem with learning tikanga Māori will develop and apply a range of communicative skills in a variety of contexts that will enable them to express their thoughts in te reo Māori with accuracy, fluency, cultural integrity and gain an understanding of language revitalization.
Course Content:
This course will further develop students’ competence in:
- listening, speaking, reading, and writing Te Reo Māori
- understanding important and relevant issues in Aotearoa and abroad
- utilizing everyday phrases and idioms
- researching and presenting information gathered on Te Ao Māori
- expressing personal opinions and thoughts on a given topic
Content/Topics:
Oku Wawata/ My hopes and dreams
He take taiohi/ A local issue that affects teenagers
Powhiri/ The importance of powhiri to Maori
Nga Purakau- Well known myths or legends
Entry Requirements
Te Reo Māori Level 2 is designed to improve on and extend Level one’s te reo Māori proficiency. If you have not taken Te Reo Māori before pleas see the teacher in charge before selecting this option.
Pathway
Success in our Level 2 te reo Māori course provides students with a foundation of communicative skills and cultural knowledge that will be useful for studying Level 3 Te Reo Māori.
Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
