Level 1 Outdoor Education

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr J. Edwards.

This course is ideal for students who love the outdoors and enjoy getting out beyond the classroom and into the world to learn through practical experiences with walks, biking, kayaking or paddling on the water and high ropes.

This is a new course in 2025 and is internally assessed with one external portfolio where students reflect on how the environment impacts on their well-being.

Throughout the year, students will participate in at least three outdoor experiences. Students will walk in the Waitakere ranges, mountain bike in Woodhill forest and rock climb at an indoor rock climbing centre.

Entry Requirements

A general interest in the outdoors and the environment is required, as well as good behaviour. This is due to the high risk activities.

Pathway

This course leads onto careers in Tourism, Business, Outdoor Education as an instructor teacher, Park ranger (Marine reserve or other wildlife reserves).

Course Selection is confirmed at the start of 2025.  You can change the courses you have selected up until the start of next year provided there are still spaces in the course you wish to change to.

Some courses may become unavailable due to the number of students taking the courses or changes in staffing.

New courses may also be introduced, in which case you will be notified and given the opportunity to select the new course.
