Year 9 Samoan

Although next year timetables are yet to be finalised, course selection is now finished. Any changes to student courses will now take place in January.

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr I. Numia.

Talofa Lava! Mālō le Soifua! Welcome to Gagana Sāmoa (Sāmoan Language)!

This year, you will learn to introduce yourself in Samoan and talk about your hobbies, likes and dislikes, family, home and school.  You will have the opportunity to learn about and experience Samoan cultural activities such as festivals, food, crafts and games. You will learn to recognise and write using Gagana Samoa, and ask and answer basic personal questions.

You will be assessed at the end of each term with different tasks, and at the end of the year with an examination incorporating everything taught over the year.

To succeed in this course:

- Revise new vocabulary through Quizlet or in your books. Repetition is key to retaining information.

- Learn your basics (Pi Tautau/Numera/Aso o le Vaiaso/Masina o le Tausaga). You need to be able to know all of these by the end of this year to move onto year 10 Samoan.

- Ask questions when you do not understand. Raise your hand and do not be afraid to make mistakes!

If you miss a class, make sure you catch-up with work on Microsoft Teams.

Other extra learning experiences and activities will be done in things such as Samoan Language Week – Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa 2025, as well as opportunities in between set tasks where you will be able to learn about culture and other aspects such as food.
