Level 1 Drama
Course Description

Year 11 Drama covers a range of useful and enjoyable theatrical areas, while providing opportunities to gain much-needed, attainable credits in entry-level NCEA assessment.
Drama is made up of the following types of lessons.
- Class Competition Game (class improvisational game)
- Rehearsal and Planning lesson
- Theory Lessons
- Writeup lesson
- Computer lessons
- Assessment Lesson or final rehearsal
Reasons to take Drama:
- Teaches you the confidence to tackle a job interview.
- Develops the communication skills to give the gift of confidence in challenging roles, including Professional Sportsman or Coach, Soldier, Policeman, Lawyer, Teacher, Social Worker, Health and Medical roles, Sales Executive, Inspirational Speaker, Politician, and Professional Actor.

- Teaches Teaching Skills.
- Drama is rich in Literacy.

- Topics of the NCEA Units:
- 1.2 - Devised Acting Internal Performing Unit (Uses a team creative process called "devising" to create an original performance)
- 1.1 - Poetry Internal Performing Unit (In a group, select a poem and adapt it into a Drama Performance)
- 1.3 - Performance External (Writing a short script in a group and performing this. Uses the Acting Process.)
- We run a Theatre Trip to a live performance during the year to support the learning. (The cost of this is met by the candidates).
- 15 NCEA Credits 15 internal credits in all (2 internal acting units, 1 external acting unit)
- 5 Credits optional extension unit (1 written external unit)

Term 1-2: Class Competition Game, Exercises and Games, Elements Study and Revision, 1.2 Devising performance, Devising Sheet & Hotseat sheet, Due end of week 2, term 2
Term 2
Term 2-3: Genre Study and Revision, 1.3 Scripted devised performance & Writeup, Due end of week 3, term 3
Term 3
Term 3 Techniques & Conventions Study and Revision, 1.1 Techniques performance to convey a message, & Writeup Due end of week 9, term 3
Term 4
Drama exercises, games and skills, and non-assessed performances, external trip to the theatre to see a play
