TE AO MĀORI – YEAR 11
NCEA LEVEL 1
CODE: 11MAO
Te Ao Māori denotes the Māori World. While simple in definition, it is rich in meaning and vast in breadth and depth.
Here at Kelston Boy’s High School, Te Ao Māori refers to three key areas covered in this course:
• Te Reo Māori (Māori language)
• Tikanga Māori (protocols and customs)
• Mana Whenua (tribal affiliation, identity, history, stories and resources)
Together, these three areas will provide students with a broad overview and a better understanding of Māori culture and language. Students will be provided with opportunities to observe, learn, and practice oral, forms of Te Reo Māori, engage and interact with others to carry out aspects of ngā tikanga and gain knowledge through research of kaupapa Māori topics.
For some NCEA assessment standards offered in this course, students can choose to write in Te Reo or English.
